Wk 2: Work Readiness Skills

Two Work Readiness Qualities
Last week while interning at Ceres, I prepared the meals and prepared what was needed in order to have the food delivered to clients. I acted with diligence and was dedicated while working on the tasks assigned. On Wednesday, when not knowing how to do a certain cut or why the food I was chopping didn't look similar to the others, I inquired why to the teen and adult volunteer next to me. I also acted diligently on Thursday when I was confused as to how I organized the bags and who was to be delivered to and why there was one excluded. From asking questions, I learned that two clients were not to be delivered to today despite me putting out their bags to receive food. There was a bit of hysteria because there was the possibility that I put more tupperware out than needed. Turned out that the right amount had been set out and all was fine. I learned that it's okay to ask questions, in fact, it's required.
I was also diligent while working. I double checked while counting the tupperware and made sure there was the current amount in each pile. I also had to put out the bags to put the tupperware and divided them according to what route they were apart of. I also put labels on the meals that had meal restrictions and made sure that that specific tupperware was put in the person's bag. I learned that one must be attentive to do their job correctly.

Skill that held me back
While being in charge of organizing the bags, I was to tutor another teen so there would be a rotation of job responsibilities. A weakness I have is the ability to communicate effectively. Since I had only done the task assigned once before, I was still learning. In turn, I had trouble explaining the task to do as I was unsure of myself and my ability to do the job well.

  1. Excellent communication. You are a very intuitive and that I know for a fact is an essential quality for your field. It really seems like you excelled on your first day at your internship, and hey, every newcomer has to learn to do something different so no worries! I think you did an excellent job from what I have read here.
