Wk 3: What do I want to do with my life?

Option 3:

I know I want to go to college, I'm just not sure I want to go right after high school. I feel as though I still need to discover who I am and what I want to do in life. This is why I'm leaning towards doing a gap year after I graduate in June of 2015. I don't want to pursue a career that I'm not entirely sold on because I feel pressured by my parents and their friends bombarding me with questions regarding my future.

Career wise, I'm still unsure what I want to do almost everyday for the rest of my life. I know that I want to help people, but that's very broad. There are numerous career opportunities for helping others, ranging from being a counselor to a police officer. Both jobs are very different from one another and finding one that suits me as a person is going to be a major deciding factor.

Volunteering, it's not a career, but it does involve helping others. The only problem is that it's free and there is no income. The act of aiding others makes me happy.

I believe that experiencing an array of jobs will help me decide what I want to do in the future. Careers require a certain personality and way of thinking. If I don't feel comfortable doing the job or am not gaining any joy, I won't pursue it any further.

I just want to constantly learn and develop as a person. I also want to use my experience from helping myself to help others. By having a positive impact on one person's life, they'll be able to impact others and a chain effect will occur.

In regards to the environment I want to live in, I think that the west coast is a good match for me. I don't like extreme weather and california is very different in regards to weather and other things compared to other states. I definitely want to be surrounded by people who are liberal and diverse. With a different surrounding, I'll be exposed to new ideas and people.
