Majors:
In this blog entry, we are asked to think about the potential majors we want to have in college. This is a pretty difficult task, unfortunately. However, if I have to put something down, I guess I would say either psychology, social, work, or criminal justice. It all depends on what particular jobs I enjoy in each field, and of course, if I'm able to support myself.
Potential Jobs:
It's true that psychology majors have a wide variety of opportunities. I found that for psychology majors, common job titles are case management, career counselor, or rehabilitation specialist. I'm not exactly clear on what a case manager is, but know that there are many within my internship at Heartland Hospice. I know that for each of these careers it is essential that the person is patient, but passionate about what they do, and the people they're helping. The average pay of a case manager can vary widely from as low as $50,000, to as high as $85,000. A career counselor makes between $35,000-$55,000. Lastly, a rehabilitation specialist makes between $50,000-$80,000. Of course, salaries tend to be higher once I enter a Marin County zip code. However, it varies for each county depending on the economical stance of each.
Case Manager:
Focusing on the career of a case manager, it's easy to see that they make the highest amount of money on average, and also requires an extensive amount of education. A bachelor's degree is mostly required, however the more education, the better. A range of experience is also recommended. People working as case managers must have personality traits such as compassion towards others, patience, leadership skills, and communicational skills. Each of these jobs requires a person who is able to work as a team member, as well as maintain an overall sense of empathy.
i want to be a doctor and i need a lot of patience and passion for what i want to do. i agree being a leader is also really good for these kind of jobs.
ReplyDeleteCaitlin! Great blog post. I remember talking to you about what we want to do in college and afterwards, and it seems like you covered most of it. I feel like you'd be really good in criminal justice since you're very diligent, responsible, and social. Keep up the good work and I'll see you next week at Heartland!
