When I go to college, I will likely major in biochemistry. Three jobs that accompany that major are a chemical engineer, a doctor, and a pharmacist.
Chemical Engineer:
Average Salary: Chemical engineers with a B.A. earn a starting salary of $40,000 a year. Chemical engineers with a PhD earn a starting salary of $85,000 a year. Average pay is approximately $100,000 a year.
Geographic locations: high population states, such as California and Texas, offered the most chemical engineering jobs with average salaries between $100,000 to $130,000 a year.
Education: B.A. (4 year college degree)
Personalities: Careful/meticulous, precise
Doctor:
Average Salary: Average salary depends on the type of doctor, ranging from a family physician (least amount of education) to a neurosurgeon. A family physician will make approximately $189,000 a year and neurosurgeons make approximately $535,000.
Geographic locations: Generally, upper-midwest doctors earn the highest salary and northeastern doctors have the lowest salaries, on average.
Education: B.A. (4 year college degree), M.D. (4 year medical school), 1 year internship (family physician), 6 year residency + 2 year fellowship (neurosurgeon)
Personalities: caring, precise, intelligent, sympathetic, optimistic
Pharmacist:
Average Salary: $115,000
Geographic locations: Pharmacists earn the highest salaries in Alaska, California, Maine, Vermont, and Wisconsin.
Education: B.A. (Including two years of pre-pharmacy coursework - anatomy, biology, calculus, chemistry, physics, and sociology, Pharm.D (Doctor of Pharmacy degree - 4 years), 2 year residency program (for clinical pharmacists)
Personalities: precise, careful/meticulous
Pharmacology is totally underrated, and Wisconsin could be a cool place to demonstrate that skill, seems like they are needed there. I bet that includes a lot more school than a lot of jobs.
ReplyDeleteIt is interesting that pharmacists earn the highest salaries in places like Maine, Vermont and Wisconsin considering how much lower the cost of living is there compared to a lot of other places in the country.
